Lakes Region SAR adds Winter Team

The Lakes Region Search and Rescue team is excited to roll out a specialized winter sub-team. Winter SAR in NH provides unique challenges that demands specific skill sets. The goal for this team is that each member is capable of responding to call outs at any time, in any conditions on terrain below tree line with the exception of 5th class and avalanche terrain. Members of this sub-team come from the roster of active 3-season team members. A handful are on other SAR teams winter teams, and many have specialized backgrounds in winter guiding and trip leading.

The team roster is currently 13 members strong with shakedown hikes ongoing. These hikes are intended to be representative of the more extreme challenges team members might face on a mission. They take place on objectives representative of the larger mountains in our area of response with night time travel, bushwhacking and icy trail conditions. The pictures below are from one such “Shakedown” held on Mount Flume
