Applications for 2024 volunteers are now being accepted!

Lakes Region SAR is continuously looking for experienced and dedicated hikers to join the team

Prospective members must reside within one of the following towns:  Albany, Alton, Bartlett, Belmont, Brookfield, Center Harbor, Chatham, Conway, Eaton, Effingham, Farmington, Freedom, Gilford, Gilmanton, Harts Location, Holderness, Jackson, Laconia, Madison, Meredith, Middleton, Milton, Moultonborough, New Durham, Northfield, Ossipee, Sanbornton, Sandwich, Tamworth, Tilton, Tuftonboro, Wakefield, Wolfeboro, or a town sharing a border with one of the aforementioned towns.

Applicants should be comfortable and capable of hiking anywhere in the Whites with a heavy pack and have appropriate skills and equipment for overnight and severe weather (3-season) hiking. The winter team is made up of members who have already spent a season on the 3-season team.

Members are expected to attend at least two team trainings and respond to at least two missions. A high degree of professionalism is expected both on missions and off. Members are expected to adhere to a strict media/social media policy that prohibits, among other things, sharing photos or thoughts from rescues, or passing judgment on rescue subjects or other members of the community.

Interested candidates should fill out and submit the application below. Applications are reviewed by the Board of Directors at one of our monthly meetings. Accepted applicants are invited to a Qualification hike, held in the spring and the end of summer. Candidates who clear the Qualification hike will then attend a two hour training. Upon completion they are invited on to the team on a probationary status until they have been to at least one training and one mission or two missions. Once they have cleared probation they are considered Active Members.
